New yet old, Atlantica brings something new to the MMO scene with turn-based RPG gaming. Yeah, I’m talking Final Fantasy style turn-based fighting but in an MMO. It even adds a party system without other players! In Atlantica the player can hire mercenaries to accompany them throughout their quest. The options for mercenaries are quite diverse in the way they play, grow and attack. The game takes traditional Turn-Based RPG and simply puts it in to an MMO. Atlantica also utilizes the party system between players, making for giant fights against monstrous foes and bosses. The player can organize a party with another player and both their mercenary groups follow them into battle, giving both players their full teams. Sadly, the game suffers from MMO monster syndrome. All the monsters you’re ordered to fight at one point or another simply graze their spawn locations in giant packs. There are no other species then human in this game, but seeing as the game’s map is the world map of Earth that doesn’t bother me. It can also get dreary and really boring watching your character running from one destination to the next. It takes some patience when dealing with the grueling Turn-Based combat grind but that’s natural when dealing with Turn-based RPGs. It’s also a funny occurrence when you make your character auto-run from Japan to New York, crossing the Asian continent and Europe. What’s better is the game implemented a fun and very Fire Emblem-ish turn-based strategy campaign. The sound track for this game is a very RPG sounding track, so nothing special there. This game is definitely worth trying if you’re a fan of turn-based combat. If you’re into turn-based combat, this game is definitely something you’ll want to check out.
